Computational Insights into Viral Evolution and Genome Engineering: Application in Influenza Antigenicity Prediction and 3-dimensional organization of genome in transcription regulation

报告摘要: In recent years, with the continuous deepening of biological research and the rapid development of computing technology, computational biology has become a research hotspot in the field of life sciences. In the study of viruses, the high infectivity and constantly mutating characteristics of influenza viruses pose a huge challenge to global public health. Accurately predicting the antigenic variation and lethality of influenza viruses is crucial for epidemic prevention and control as well as vaccine development. At the same time, in the field of genome engineering, the key role of long non - coding RNA (lncRNA) in complex physiological and pathological processes has been gradually revealed. However, due to its own characteristics, it is extremely difficult to study its functional annotation and mechanism of action. This report will introduce a series of research achievements of the research team in the computational research of virus evolution and genome engineering, covering the prediction of influenza virus antigenicity and the research on the three - dimensional organization in genome transcriptional regulation, providing new ideas and methods for the development of related fields.

近年来,随着生物研究的不断深入和计算技术的快速发展,计算生物学已成为生命科学领域的研究热点。在病毒研究方面,流感病毒的高传染性和不断变异的特点对全球公共卫生构成了巨大挑战。准确预测流感病毒的抗原变异和致死率对于疫情防控以及疫苗研发至关重要。与此同时,在基因组工程领域,长非编码RNA(lncRNA)在复杂的生理和病理过程中的关键作用已逐渐显现。然而,由于其自身的特点,研究其功能注释和作用机制极具困难。本报告将介绍研究团队在病毒进化和基因组工程计算研究方面的一系列成果,涵盖流感病毒抗原性预测以及基因组转录调控中三维组织的研究,为相关领域的发展提供新的思路和方法。

报告人简介: Prof. Kwoh Chee Keong is currently in the College of Computing & Data Science since 1993. He received his Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering (1st Class) and Master in Industrial System Engineering from the National University of Singapore in 1987 and 1991 respectively. He received his Ph.D. degrees from the Imperial College, University of London in 1995. His research interests include Data Mining and Soft Computing and Graph-Based inference; applications areas include Bioinformatics and Biomedical Engineering. He has done significant research work in his research areas and published over 90 quality international conferences and over 30 journal papers. He has been often invited as a organizing member or referee and reviewer for a number of premier conferences and journals, including GIW, IEEE BIBM, RECOMB, PRIB etc. Prof. Kwoh is a member of The Institution of Engineers Singapore, Association for Medical and Bio-Informatics, Imperial College Alumni Association of Singapore (ICAAS). He has provided many service to professional bodies and was conferred the Public Service Medal, the President of Singapore in 2008. In 2023, he received the COVID-19 Resilience Medal for his efforts during the pandemic.

Kwoh Chee Keong 教授自 1993 年起就职于南洋理工大学计算与数据科学学院。他分别于1987年和1991年获得新加坡国立大学电气工程一等荣誉学士学位和工业系统工程硕士学位;1995 年获得伦敦大学帝国理工学院的博士学位。研究涉及数据挖掘、软计算和基于图的推理;应用领域包括生物信息学和生物医学工程。发表了90多篇高质量的国际会议和30多篇期刊论文。担任多个顶级会议和期刊的组织成员、裁判和审稿人,包括GIW、IEEE BIBM、RECOMB、PRIB等。Kwoh教授是新加坡工程师学会、医学与生物信息学协会、新加坡帝国理工学院校友会(ICAAS)的成员,为专业机构提供了许多服务,于2008年被授予新加坡总统公共服务奖章。2023 年因在疫情期间的贡献获得了应对新冠坚韧奖章。
